absolutely recommend not renting from this building. I first saw one apartment and signed the lease for this apartment, on move in day they notified me that the apartment was ALREADY leased and they will give me a different one. I than agreed because the apartment was basically the same. I rented this apartment and has a horible experience while there. I have one dog who is generally quiet. she barked occasionally and every time she did there would be a noise complaint, yet its a pet friendly buidling...not really. After havent horrible experiences this took a tole on my relationship and we decided that we needed to go our seperate ways. We bought out of the lease and were told that we need to pay rent until there is someone who would like to rent our aparmtnet. so we wanted about 3 months and heard nothing from the building. We called them to see if there has been any interest in the apaertment and we were told SOMEONE IS NOW LIVING THERE. so not only did they neber tell us that our apartment had been leased out, but they had also been charging the new tenents and myself. so making double the rent. they acted completly clueless and no one there is at all helpful. rediculous experience and i strongly suggest you go rent with somewhere else...

The worst place in Ottawa to live . Elevators never work I have been here for 2 years and they have worked about 40% of the time. Pool is always closed till further notice when you call the office to find out why they all have a different answer for you. It is never OPEN so why is it never working. There are no fans in any of the bathrooms. When we ask about this we never get an answer. TAKE THE TIME TO READ THE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU MOVE IN . People don't and usually move out after a year. STAY AWAY.

I lived at 1170 fisher from 93-2003.It was an amasing res bldg,clean,quiet,in top shape,ventilation in halls and suites was working well,pool clean,covered,repairs upkept.
I mived back here sept 2015 with Homestead.I should have know when application was lost twice,along with my photocopied id,stubs,and waited 10 days for approval with 1800$ tied up. But they promised the rusted b-Room sink and leaking tap would be repaired,enamel badly damaged tub redone,floors sanded(there were extreme dog scratches damage before i moved in.Stupid me didnt get this documented... day i signed lease,2 days past paid date(refused me a refund on 3 days i could not move in due to their mix ups)..nice start) they had lost the keys to my unit...They got new lock on 4th day.The sink,tap,tub had not been done.The floors were not sanded but a coat of cheap varnish that made the dog scrates look like large areas of "bruised banana skin". They regused to fix tub.The spout was so badly eaten i cut my hand on it.You just need buy CLR and scrub it,and clean your tub properly i was told.rusted sink and leaking tap remained.Floors i resigned to.They shutting off parking lot entrance (mentioned below) for 2 months,tenants signing petitions,having to walk through snow,ice,around to main entrance.It was hell and when they changed back locks gave some "we didnt know" lame answer.I guess the locks installed themselves twice... There was a major flood from roof that when into elevator shaft,twice.buckets all over and holes in ceulings to catch the contaminated mess.Holes remain,brown stained ceilings,mold smell,bldg ventilation shut off. As mentioned only half boiler worked well.last winter was freezing then 95 degrees in unit an entire feb long weekend as they computeruzed it and supers are locked out of the controls.Was a sauna at 16-18 degrees outside for a wk.Homestead doesnt grasp concept of right to reasonable enjoyment of unit clause in lease.Every week theres a notice of entry EVERY WEEK!!!! And yes,they unlock all unit doors and leave it wide open hrs on end for anyone to walk in unit. But when something is broken,such as water coming through under wall into closet,wall soft from rot,good luck with repairs."Its normal they say" to repair requests. 5 months after i moved my bathroom smelled of rotten cabbage from the hot water leak rusted pipes in bathroom sink. There was a list of ignored repair request(4 pink slips in all) i called the city inspector. Of course i was treated like a pariah after that.6 orders of repairs later,one to install bathroom shut off valves to replace sink mess,tun spout,rotten kickplates,bubling brown wall between tub and sink from previous water damage... they chose not to shut bldg water main and get a 19 yr old confused plumber to freez pipes instead. It became my nightmare i wish on no one. Pipes exploded and a flood of 7 inches of brown contaminated water going through 70 yr old wall insulation flooded my entire unit. Took 3 hrs to clean my unit mess,than 6 to clean the floided next door neighbour and 4 other units below.They said "leave your windo and unit door open "overnight" itll dry and be fine...??? Next day smell was terrible in there floors had sucked up so much water,walls were damp,parket was warped everywhere stank of wet wood my furniture 6 months boyght at Leons was ruined,contaminated,beyond salvation. I was told by ott office it was an unforyunate minimal incident that was dealt with. When i called inspector...funny he called "homestead first" and refused to inspect the completely ruined unit....
From day of flood i could not live in my unit. It was a cluster f until Sept 30th 2016 when they settled my claim to avoid court.I cant express enough the stress i went through from this "unfortunate minimal puddle"... i lost everything,books,in shelves,items that cannot be replaces,nearly lost my mind,1300 in vet as my cat sat terrified in roim where they chased him in 6 inches of water.He became ill from stress and whatever was in water. I had a nervous breakdown lived on my daughters coucih 6 months,couldnt rent untill it was legslly resolved and homestead took their time.After an 800$ mold air quality test that failed with flying colors,told to not stay in unit(i had not for 2 months) nor paid rent since flood,held it till repairs and a clean mold test on their part.They settled.And threw out the trashed furniture and rented the unit (no repairs though) to someone else.How can they get away with such illegal things,i dont know.City inspector after official complaint investigating bribes was transfered somewhere else in city grid... what i went through for a yr was beyond inhumane. No apologies,settling doesnt mean accepting responsibilities. I wont disclose numbers as i signed dovcuments i cannot. And i felt horrible for the other 5 temants.But could only care for myself.My daughter lives here still.Since june 10th 2017 they have had to rely on a single elevator servicing 244 units on 9 floors. Itll last till october 15th as they replace and rebuild elevator shafts from 2015 flood. The new one now in service has broken down (people stuck in new improves elevator....)7 times in past 18 days. Its jyst begining. Since bldg ventilation was shut down 2 yrs ago,place stinks of mold,food,dog pee on hall carpets,pot,and unidentifyable stench.Yes balcony bolts and "general maintenance" inspections in units(illegal to snoop on tenants" but eh,ppl jyst put up and the turnover in bldg is phenomenal. With one elevator,you can imagine how pleasant moves are,for tenants having to walk up 5-9 flights of stairs as well,with kids,dogs,groceries.... i wont speak of garbage thrown off balconies,pizza boxes,yogurt containers,used tampons (?) Careful of hypodermic needles next.
If my post is edited,its a shame. I wish i could say i cannot prove the "unfortunate puddle event.." but i can.

Recently moved out of this place and must say having read other reviews we agree with all points brought against living here,Right from the start things are not as they seem.We were shown a apt, and decided to take it,we instead were given one on the top floor.Well a few issues we noticed right away.At time pipes in walls and ceilings make noise.As others have said walls are thin and offer little sound barrier.Not only did we hear pipes and neighbor noise in apt but as well it seems the building houses several scrappers and car wreckers,We had one below us that came and went at all hours with noisy trucks and trailers,back up alarms,winch and cables and chain noises etc.No only did he work on his own vehicles but as well fired up wrecks at all hours some with no or shot exhaust systems,In addition another works on his truck with saws and grinders going constantly.As has been noted in other reviews the ladlord spends on eye candy to attact new renters,we saw a apt freshly redone with new tiles etc and a freshly painted hall with new carpets,We ended up on the top floor and pass a garbage bucket in the common hall that is a pernament feature to catch water from the leaking roof,upon speaking to neighbors we learned others had leaks in apts as well.As another review described it perfectly the landlords gave more orders for entry and gained entry more often then we had guests/family over and like others we prefer to be home for this which mean time off of work.With onsite staff turnovers and the same with other employee turnover it is rare if not a never occasion to have the same staff enter twice so you never know who is in your apt.On one occasion all units were entered for toilet swap,neither my other half nor I could stay home but each stopped in once during day to find out door propped open along with all others and the work crew were not even in our end of hall.A neighbor returned home to find her door unlocked after one of these all access days,Again as also mentioned the apts are supposed to have vents that draw air to roof from bathrooms and kitchens.They were all shut down instead of repaired so you get to smell all the neighbors odours and as well in our case in mid winter we had to stay overnight elsewhere on 2 occasions as apts below us had their floors refinished to ready for rent.Without the fans on roof drawing the air up and out the fumes wander up and the closed off duct works and exits in all the other apts gassing us and others out.The pool when open at all opens late in day and closes early so if you want to swim after work,forget it, that is when it is open it seems they have a long standing problem with parking lot run off and after every rain it is closed for days as the water gets fouled so do not let the pool attract you as it has a very short season and often closed for days following a rain.

I live in this building 3 years so far. They changed the boilers which is located on the top of the building. The company who take care of everything regarding to heat is owned by the son of the property management. So when they replaced the boilers they screwed everything. the building starts vibrating and making noise especially in the upper level.
lots of complaints but Homestead says there is nothing can be done. <removed>

They have in this building several incidents of steeling from lockers.

do not rent there. They make their fake smile and when it comes to real work they show the other face.
