Reviewer says...
I lived at 850 Canterbury Ave. for 5 short months in 2015. The buildings 5th and 6th floor are infested with Bed Bugs. After 3 short weeks of living there I was informed that a tenant on my floor had bed bugs and that they would do a preventative treatment in my unit (as it was a tenant with a common wall shared with my unit that had the bed bugs on my floor) This was the first I had heard of bed bugs in this building, so far I was pleased with the level of cleanliness in the building. But as everyone should know when the bed bugs have been neglected the problem can become out of hand and they were living in the walls, floor and ceiling. 4 months post the preventative treatment I found bed bugs in bed. I informed the management office of the bed bugs (it happened on a Wednesday evening) and my apartment was not treated until Tuesday of the following week. I was living in the unit with my one and a half year old daughter. My bed, box spring and mattress had to be thrown out and two weeks after the treatment they did a follow-up treatment and found that there were still bed bugs in the bedroom even without a bed. I spoke with 9 neighbours and of those 9 neighbours the unit adjacent to mine who had the bed bugs in July 2015 informed me he has had bed bugs at least 4 times in the last 3 years, the unit across from mine informed me they had bed bugs 5 times in the last 5 months and the unit above from mine informed me they had the bed bugs twice in the last year. I was told my the office staff to buy electrical plug outlets (what you use for babies) and to plug all outlets not in use in my apartment in the future to prevent them from coming through the electrical. I was also told to place my bed in the center of my apartment in the future to prevent them from crawling in my bed from the walls. The management did not pay for any damage or loss from the bed bug infestation and the worst of all is that my neighbor adjacent to my unit was friends with the gentleman who lived in my unit prior to me moving in, and they informed me that he moved out because the unit was infested with bed bugs. Therefore management knew there was a reoccurring issue with bed bugs in my unit/floor and still rented me the apartment which in the end cost me over thousands of dollars in losses(both me and my daughters bed, multiple wooden dressers, sofa, chairs, toys, etc...) not to mention time off work I had to take un-paid and the emotional impact it had on life. I would highly discourage anyone renting from the apartment complex Canterbury Square.
