Bug, bugs, bugs. So many nasty things were found everywhere. Surprised no bedbugs or cockroaches were an issue. But it seemed like other kinds were coming from the baseboards and radiators.

Definitely a war of good vs. bad was going on. There were a couple known drug dealers trying to run the whole building. Then the good people were trying to get rid of the riff raff.

High turn over of managements. Not sure who owns and runs the building now. Last time I heard they were trying to get all the tenants out and turn the place into condos.

There were parties all the time. Police were always called to the building. It got to the point random tenants were questioned for irrelevant things to them.

Not sure if pets are allowed still, but they were allowed when I lived there.

Tons of kids in the building, about half were always taken by CFS, which means you could hear abuse going on. Very disturbing to listen to and witness.

Lots of crime and vandals. Especially at the side fire escape.

Despite the issues, people are social and willing to be your friend. Having allies is a must in a building like this.

Plenty of parks nearby, schools and a community centre, amenities.

Not a great neighbourhood to raise kids. Drug and gang houses are on every block. Prostitutes are always walking up and down the streets all hours, including during time when kids are coming and going from school.
Lots of hostile people.

Management constantly changed. The landlord doesn't even live in the province. Nothing was fixed or replaced. Maintenance staff were rarely, if ever, seen. Caretakers changed frequently, too. Halls were at least vacuumed, but windows, doors and fixtures were never cleaned. It was disgusting. There was mysterious splatters and smears all over the walls in the main hallways. Kids would run around the halls all hours, all ages. Thick floors and walls, solid front doors, but you could still hear babies crying, kids screaming, parents shouting, people fighting, rowdy parties all the time. Safety was a constant issue. Windows are invasively close to the side fire escape stairs and people would look inside suites and shout criticisms about your place. Curtains are required.
Very Main floor and basement suites have very little natural light. The atmosphere was always dark and depressing. It always felt like you were never alone in your suite. Not saying it's haunted, but things inexplicitly happened I couldn't explain. Such as the time I heard loud, forceful knocking at my door but no one was there and I didn't hear anyone walking up to the door or leaving and I was sitting in the living room a few feet from the front entrance.
The ceilings are very high. You need a ladder to replace bulbs in the kitchen and bedroom.
Water heat. You have no control over the heat, at all. The heat us turned on full force in November and shut off In April or May. It can get literally oven hot, forcing you to open windows in the middle of winter.
All sorts of bugs would infest your place. It was so nasty.
No air conditioner. We had to get our own window air unit and fans.
There was only 1 washer and dryer for the whole apartment. There's a laundromat a couple blocks away where you can get all your laundry done at once for less in price.
There was no storage units. Not that your stuff would be safe from thieves.
There is on-street parking but no parking stalls. Car break-ins and theft is high in the area.
The neighborhood has a mix of decent people that are trying to clean the area up and those that don't care or are just criminals in nature. You see a lot of child abuse and neglect, drug dealing, fights, prostitutes that walk around very close to schools and parks, gang activity and vandalism. Not the best area to raise a family.
The building was pet-friendly, not sure if it still is.
The hardwood floors were worn and battered. Dingy walls and lead paint still present. Odd kitchen set up.
Large radiators in every room. The bathroom is the most hazardous. I would burn my bottom every time I took my kid out of the bath.

Some history I dug: There was a fire and soot can still be found around the door frames. In the '90s a guy was killed in the same apartment I was living in. In the late '60s a middle aged woman was killed just outside the building. The apartment is about 100 years old or older.
It is an eyesore of the block.
