Reviewer says...
I rented from Lancaster Place for eight months and for the most part it was good. The single bedroom apartments were one of the cheapest in town for a recently renovated place though I did learn that as folks moved out, the new asking renting price jumped a good $200 extra a month. There was a nice sized storage room that helped with, well... storage and I had heard from the original landlords (a company had purchased Lancaster Place a couple of months after I moved in and a new property manager was put in place) some families had made a small child's bedroom out of the space. The kitchen has lots of counter space and cupboard space which was lovely. My apartment did not have a dishwasher but some of the other suites there did. The building is pet friendly with dogs being allowed on the bottom floor and cats on the top floor, though I believe the gentleman who lived across from me on the top floor did have a small dog.

Despite pets being allowed, I heard very little of my neighbours. From the few I saw walking about the building has a mix of young singles, couples, young families, and seniors. I didn't hear any children or pets laughing or barking so overall I'd say the neighbourly noise is very low. HOWEVER! Due to the location of the building you do get a lot of traffic noise! There is a major intersection just in front and the amount of angry car honks I heard and tires screeching from heavy brake application and people shouting at one another's "bad" driving was absurd. Plus a firehall is just up the road and the ambulance garage is not too far away so sirens were definitely a daily disturbance.

Other than traffic, the location is great for amenities. Cherry Lane mall is just across Main Street and Superstore/Staples/Winners is a 3 min walk away. It's handy if you just want to park your vehicle and walk about to get errands done. Lancaster Place is also nicely positioned in the centre of town so it's not far to get to the downtown area and the Skaha area.

One bummer thing about the layout of the apartment was the windows and subsequently, airflow. The balcony doors could be opened to let in fresh air but the other window I had, the bedroom, opened up to the outside walkway that connected the apartments so from a safety concern I kept that window shut. The air conditioner works wonders for keeping the main space cool but the bedroom would get so hot I found it hard to sleep in the summer.

I didn't experience any breakdowns so I'm not sure how maintenance quality and response is. After the new management property acquired the building I did notice the outside walkways were not kept as clean as the previous landlords had done, though they lived on site so perhaps this was an advantage. Mostly the spiderwebs weren't cleared out on a daily basis, once someone must have cut themselves but it wasn't until a week later the blood droplets were cleaned up. Some anti-slip strips were added to the stairs but there was about a week of bad ice on the stairs and walkways until de-icer or salt was sprinkled about and the parking lot was maybe twice plowed out during the winter. That so much didn't matter to me since I walked to work and for errands so my car stayed put in its spot. I also found it took a really long time to receive my damage deposit, almost a month, much longer than any other place I have rented.

Being on the third floor the heating bill stayed low in the winter and even though I ran the A/C 24/7 the electrical bill didn't rack up to something outrageous, maybe $50 a month, tops. The laundry is coin operated, $2.00 per wash and per dry, and there are three machines of each. For the most part laundry was fine but one of the tenants did "steal" my load by removing my clothes shortly after I started the wash cycle, put their own clothes in and leave mine soaking wet on top of another perfectly empty and operating washing machine so beware the water thief!

The balconies are staggered so you are not looking at your neighbours as you sit out there but I found the balcony got really hot facing the west afternoon sun. I tried to grow some flowers and they seemed to dry up really quickly, though that could've been my gardening skills...

Overall Lancaster Place was a decent temporary home.
PROS: Pet friendly, recently renovated interior, easy access to amenities, comes with A/C
CONS: Noisy traffic, really hot bedroom space, so-so exterior upkeep
