I lived here for 4 years as a student.
This is without a doubt a party building. Lot of smoking. lot of parties and lots of fighting.
It is not uncommon for someone to test your door knob to see if they can get in.

The area is full of homeless and drunks. Many times they will be in the lobby or hanging around the front door to try to get money or inside to sleep in the stairs.

The basement has one of the most beautiful marble pools I have ever seen. It has been closed and locked away for many years though. Few know it is ever there...

The heating is old school steam radiators. so you save a TON of hydro. Many do not like it but I love it. Just put a pot of water over the hot pipes and it will not dry out the place.

Sound is nice and quiet if you are on the back end of the building, If you are int he front.. expect neverending noise and sirens.

Rent is insane. 2k for 2 bedroom.... wow.

Bed bugs.. Bugs crawl out of the air vents and bath tubs. I have had to seal every vent up and put mesh hair catchers on every pipe. (get at dollar store)

Bed bugs are everywhere. I got around this by throwing this special sand all over the place that kills them. (cant remember the name) It is pet friendly..

Building also has a no pet code but that is illegal to enforce in Ontario so just ignore it. I have had 2 cats in my unit as well as many others. They cannot legally do anything about it, and in this area. a nice loud dog is probably needed for security.

All that being said. Parking is great. lots of spots. Heating is free. Hot water is always running and lots of storage if you need it. Also maintenance is .really quick.

The building has bed bugs and the tenants are quite nosy. Heating is via old fashioned water heater radiators; they take a lot of time to heat up and the heat doesn't distribute well - plus it is very drying. The building is close to a number a men's homeless shelter; they are aggressive panhandlers and some of them smoke crack openly. I wouldn't say this is a safe neighbourhood for women. Byward Market is a great area, but either further north or west from here would be better. The Building Manager Chris is great, very attentive to getting things fixed. A definitive plus for the building. The building was renovated a number of years ago, so it is semi-modern, but the guts of the building are very old: water pressure is the lowest I have ever seen.
